Speech Pathology

What is a Speech Pathologist (SP)?

In early intervention, SPs support children who are experiencing delays or difficulties in communication, language development, social interaction, feeding, or early literacy skills. Their focus is not just on speech sounds, but on helping children express themselves, understand others, build relationships, and participate in everyday routines. They also support children with alternative or augmentative communication (AAC) methods if verbal speech is not yet developing.

Does your child need support with any of the below?

Not using words by 18 months
Difficulty following simple instructions
Limited social interaction
Challenges with eating or drinking safely
Frustration when trying to communicate
Difficulty playing with others or taking turns
Speech that is hard for family or others to understand
Lack of interest in books, stories,
or songs

These are just some examples of the things that a SP can help you with, but there are many more. Reach out to one of our team members to see how a SP can help your child.

SPs at Blended Therapy Services follow a transdisciplinary, keyworker approach. Each child will have a SP involved in their care, whether that is as the Keyworker, serving as the family’s consistent point of contact, or indirectly via therapy team meetings. By drawing on the knowledge and expertise of the broader team, our SPs provide support across the child’s developmental areas (e.g., working on following instructions whilst completing an obstacle course to target the OT’s gross-motor goals). Our SPs work closely with families to embed therapy strategies into daily activities—like mealtimes, play, and story time—making learning meaningful and functional.
